NEW PASSAGE!
Okay, we can’t resist. The thought of NOT sailing our new boat, ICEBEAR, into the Baltic and into ‘home’ waters in Sweden for Andy and Mia just wasn’t sitting well. So we’re adding a passage from Marstrand, our honorary homeport, into Mariehamn, Åland, in the Finnish archipelago. We'll depart from Marstrand, Sweden and sail south past Copenhagen (potentially stopping, depending on weather & timing) and head east into the Baltic Sea. We’ll almost certainly stop in one of our favorite Baltic ports, medieval Visby on the Swedish island Gotland, before finishing with an overnight sail into Mariehamn. There's easy (and very cheap) ferry travel from Mariehamn back to Stockholm. This passage will involve both in-land coastal navigation and offshore days in the Baltic.

The Route
Tentative Itinerary
Day 0: Join the boat in Marstrand, Sweden - our honorary homeport on the beautiful west coast of Sweden. Spend the day getting to know ICEBEAR and going through safety routines, etc.
Day 1: Full-day safety, nav and weather briefing onboard ICEBEAR, daysail if the weather and timing permits. Potential visit to Rutgerson Marine, a longtime supporter of 59 North.
Day 2: Head offshore! Set sail and fall off South to sail around the south of Sweden.
Day 2-8: At-sea. Navigate through the Swedish & Danish waterways and ease ICEBEAR into the Baltic. Set sails North!
Day 8: Arrival, landfall in Mariehamn, Åland.
Day 10: Crew depart the boat from Mariehamn. The closest airport is Mariehamn (MHQ), but you can easily take the ferry to Stockholm and fly out from Stockholm International airport (ARN) .
A happy Mia coming into Marstrand aboard ISBJORN in 2019!
