Synopsis

Join us in Annapolis, Maryland to journey north into the heart of the Canadian Maritimes! After preparing the boat and exiting the bay, we’ll set sail on an offshore course towards Nova Scotia. Prevailing winds blow from the southwest this time of year giving us the chance for good downwind sailing offshore from New England and across the Gulf of Maine. The cold Labrador Current sweeps along the coast of Nova Scotia from the Arctic bringing fog and cooler temperatures, so we’ll be prepared to learn about and use radar navigation, if necessary, for sailing in limited visibility. Make landfall in beautiful, historic Lunenburg where its colorful harbor, fishing schooners and friendly locals await you.

Expected Weather Pattern

The weather will be warm and summery in Annapolis to start, but gradually cool down as we head into waters further north. Prevailing winds blow from the southwest this time of year off the coast of New England giving us the chance for good downwind sailing. The cold Labrador Current sweeps down from the Arctic along the coast of Nova Scotia, bringing with it much cooler temperatures and often fog along the coast.

• July 1: Join us in Annapolis by 17:00. Enjoy dinner with the group either ashore or onboard.

• July 2: All-day safety briefing & boat orientation

• July 3: Departure! (weather dependent)

• July 9: Disembark in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia by 12:00 Noon

Travel Logistics

• Fly into Baltimore-Washington International Airport (BWI) and meet in Annapolis.

• Fly out of Halifax, Nova Scotia (YHZ), a 60-90 min taxi or bus ride from Lunenburg. The crew typically teams up to book flights around the same time and shares a taxi or rents a car.

How to Join

To register, complete the Offshore Passage Registration by clicking the 'Sign Up' button above, or at the bottom of the page. You'll be asked to complete the form - make sure you hit submit. Indicate '2023: Annapolis – Lunenburg' as your preferred passage. 

Once we receive your registration, you'll be sent an invoice for 50% of the balance, due immediately. The final 50% of the balance will be due 60 days prior to the passage date. Terms and conditions are in the registration form, and you'll be asked to agree to them before submitting your deposit. Please read them carefully.
