Heavy Weather Tactics
We've been talking a lot about forecasting and heavy weather avoidance on this channel, but sometimes there is just no way to back down from the fight. How do you prepare your boat and crew, and how do you stay operational through your worst days afloat?
Susie Goodall has seen more weather than most, having raced in the 2018 Golden Globe Race, sailing alone on a retro boat through several major storms in the Southern Ocean. August Sandberg has been tossed about a fair bit too, often in the cold and dark of the high Arctic, and on many different boat designs. And in spite of his weather forecasting abilities, even Andy Schell has had a few brushes with an angry ocean.
With lots of experience and both success and failures under their keels, Susie, Andy and August will discuss the methods and tactics that worked for them, and the ones that didn't.
