Hey hey hey, welcome back to 59º North! This is a bonus episode this week, a little look behind the scenes at how some of this stuff is produced. If you listen to the podcast to get your sailing fix for the week, this is definitely not the episode for you. BUT, if you’re a real fan of the show itself, and interested in podcasting - or musical production - in general, this is an incredible look behind the scenes with me and Cameron Deyell, on how the ad music was produced.
You might recall my chat with Cameron from episode 93. I visited him in his small recording studio in Brooklyn last fall, and for over an hour, Cameron walked me through his creative process on how he came up with the ad music we now use from week to week. Cameron covered everything from his creative inspiration to his technical process on mixing it down into something useable. There are also some little nuggets into Cameron himself, where I ask him a follow-up question to something and we dive into that briefly.
I wasn’t going to do anything with this Cameron Deyell stuff, but I stumbled upon the audio file when I was organizing my computer this morning, clicked ‘play’ to see what was on it, and got so interested in it I wound up listening to the whole thing! So I figured it might be interesting to some of you. I will warn you that sometimes it’s hard to hear Cameron and I over the music he is playing, but I assure you it sounds exactly like it did in the studio. He had the volume up pretty high on his speakers, and I just had the Zoom propped on the desk. Anyway, have a listen, and let me know what you think!
