RECYCLED #99. Gary Jobson is one of the few household names in the American sailing world. He’s is a former All-American collegiate sailor and won the America's Cup in 1977 as tactician for Ted Turner. Gary then became a professional broadcaster & producer, working for ESPN and other national media organizations, and more recently has done TV announcing work for the most recent America’s Cups. He’s an Editor at Large for both Sailing World & Cruising World Magazines. Gary continues to sail out of his homeport in Annapolis and remains one of America’s strongest sailing ambassadors. I had the privilege to sit down with Gary in his home office in Annapolis back in April of 2015 to talk about his career. This episode originally aired as #99. Enjoy!
Today’s episode of On the Wind is presented by 59 North - that’s us!
Mia & I have made it a goal in 2018 to refine our mission statement of ‘sharing the wisdom of the high seas with those wise enough to seek it out’, and we’re accomplishing that in a couple of ways.
First, join us on Isbjorn for an incredible offshore sailing experience on our Swan 48, an all-time ocean sailing machine. We’re sailing 10,000 miles per year and have some exciting plans coming up in the Arctic, Atlantic & beyond. We’re about to launch our 2020 calendar, so check back often on 59-north.com/offshore for updated routes, dates and bunk availability.
Second, we’ve just launched a new podcast called ‘How I Think About Sailing’, which is precisely what the title implies, so please go check that out if you haven’t already. It’s got it’s own podcast feed, and we’re encouraging listener participation - it’s our way of answering your questions and getting the information out to as wide an audience as possible.
And lastly, we love meeting people face to face and talking sailing, so we’ve always got a few workshops on the calendar, mainly in Annapolis. on things like offshore sailing in general and my personal favorite, celestial navigation. The workshops are limited in numbers so we can have a nice and personal interaction. The dates and info for those are on 59-north.com/events. We hope you enjoy the show as much as we enjoy making it, and we hope to meet all of you out on the water! Thanks for listening, and hold fast!

'On the Wind' Sailing Podcast is informal chats with people from around the world of sailing - tall ship captains, Cape Horners, sailing authors, Volvo Ocean Race skippers, yacht designers, family cruisers, Arctic adventurers and more.
