Synopsis

Join ISBJØRN in Bergen, Norway for an intensive week of sail training! ISBJØRN will be based in historic Bryggen, in the very heart of Bergen, and one of the oldest ports in Northern Europe. Plan to sail every day into the fjords with a different theme and focus for each day including sail trim, helmsmanship, heavy-weather sailing, piloting & navigation, instruments, downwind sailing, and more. Come back to port in the afternoons except for one overnight expedition to one of the small islands near Bergen. The Skipper will leave the ship every night while in port, leaving the crew free to see the sights, hit the town, and get into all kinds of trouble.

Expected Weather Pattern

The weather on the Norwegian West coast is very unpredictable, especially this time of year. We could get champagne spinnaker sailing sunshine, a full-blown storm, rain squalls or blizzard. Or very possibly, all of the above. The only guarantee is that it will be fairly cold! But as we say, there is no bad weather, only bad clothing. No need for shorts and sandals on this one.

Tentative Itinerary

• Arrival Day: Join ISBJØRN in Bergen at 17:00. Dinner with the group.

• Day 1: All-day safety briefing & boat orientation. Weather analysis & chart study.

• Day 2-5: Morning departure and full days of sailing focusing on sail trim, helmsmanship, heavy-weather sailing, piloting & navigation, instruments, downwind sailing, and more.

• Day 6: Mid-day departure for night-sailing with overnight expedition.

• Day 7: Disembark ISBJØRN in Bergen by 12:00 Noon.

Travel Logistics

• Fly into Oslo Airport (OSL) and take the train to Bergen, or fly directly into Bergen (BGO).

• Fly directly out of Bergen (BGO), or take the train to Oslo (OSL) to fly out.

How to Join

To register, complete the Offshore Passage Registration by clicking the 'Sign Up' button above, or at the bottom of the page. You'll be asked to complete the form - make sure you hit submit. Indicate '2023: Offshore Training Camp 4 - Bergen' as your preferred passage. 

Once we receive your registration, you'll be sent an invoice for 50% of the balance, due immediately. The final 50% of the balance will be due 60 days prior to the passage date. Terms and conditions are in the registration form, and you'll be asked to agree to them before submitting your deposit. Please read them carefully.
