Synopsis
59º North is headed to the OGR after all! Well, kinda…since we won’t be taking the starting line on our own boat, we’ve decided to bring ISBJORN there instead to watch the festivities! This passage starts in Southampton, UK—the OGR starting port, and we’ll get to experience the race village and see the competitors prior to them setting off around the world. Then, we’ll watch the starting line and head to sea with the fleet, before breaking off and sailing north to Kinsale, Ireland.
Note:
We now reserve two spots for women on all of our passages! Learn more here.
The Route
Expected Weather Pattern
Fall in the English Channel and Irish Sea will be challenging! The procession of low pressure systems moving in off the Atlantic picks up speed and as we sail west out of the English Channel with the fleet we can expect upwind conditions. However, those same SW’lies making it hard to get west, will help us once we break off and sail north for Kinsale. We’ll follow the fleet as long as we can while still having time to make it to Kinsale by the passage end date.
