Synopsis
Join us in beautiful Lunenburg, Nova Scotia where we’ll set the sails for a voyage “down east” just as the centuries-old schooners sailing out towards the great fishing banks. We'll first set our course for the French island of St. Pierre, the last vestige of France's outpost in North America. We’ll take time to explore the charming town and the rugged scenery in the hills beyond. After filling up on wine and cheese, we’ll make way for St. John’s, Newfoundland, a charming fishing port and beautiful natural harbor cut into the seaside cliffs of the easternmost tip of North America. Wildlife abounds in this part of the North Atlantic, so all along the way we will be on the lookout for numerous sightings of whales, seals and seabirds including puffins! Depending on the summer ice conditions, we could also start seeing icebergs on this passage!
Note:
We now reserve two spots for women on all of our passages! Learn more here.
The Route
Expected Weather Pattern
We have seen very dense fog in this area in the past so we will be ready for radar navigation if the conditions demand it. Prevailing winds blow from the southwest this time of year so there is also the chance for good downwind sailing. The cold Labrador Current sweeps down from the Arctic along the Nova Scotia coast bringing cool temperatures and lots of fog in the summer. Depending on the summer ice conditions, we could start seeing icebergs on this passage!
