Synopsis - non-stop downwind to cape verde
Join us in sunny Las Palmas for a downwind run to Mindelo, Cape Verde. Emily Caruso & Alex Laline will lead this sail-training themed passage. We have plenty of time to get from Las Palmas to Cape Verde, so you’ll get a chance to learn the ropes a bit more than our typical passages with a couple of sail-training days & briefings around Las Palmas before heading offshore and aiming south. Practice celestial, learn about weather routing, sail on all points of sail and hear stories from Emily & Alex about their lifetime of sailing experiences from East Greenland to round-the-world with the Clipper Race!
WHAT TO EXPECT ON THIS PASSAGE
New skipper Emily Caruso with years of experience leading sail-training expeditions, most recently to East Greenland in 2023!
With plenty of time built-into the schedule, there will be time for additional sail training in Las Palmas before departure (weather dependent).
Once offshore, it’s nonstop for 900 miles — that’s 5-6 days at sea continuously.
This is a Tradewind, downwind passage, so expect spinnaker work, downwind helming, wing-on-wing sailing with the pole and easy sleeping conditions :)
NoteS:
We now reserve two spots for women on all of our passages! Learn more here.
All 59º North passages are led by qualified RYA / MCA Yachtmaster Ocean certified skippers & mates, and all miles sailed onboard BOTH of our boats will count towards your own license mileage requirements. We are happy to provide certificates to this effect as well towards your RYA Day Skipper, Yachtmaster or other countries’ sea time requirements.
