13 // FALKEN: Marstrand – Scotland // 800 Miles & 12 Days // $6,000 // 6 Available

$6,000 // 12 Days

Synopsis

After FALKEN’s first break in our adopted homeport in Sweden, we’ll head west towards Scotland for the first leg of the passage south. The aim is to get across the North Sea before the fall storms. Expect variable weather and lots of navigational challenges as we traverse the oil rigs and depressions of the North Sea, bound for a spectacular landfall in northern Scotland!

We’ll sail around the top of Scotland, aiming for our finish port in Oban. Depending on the weather and timing, we’ll make potential stops in Shetland, Orkney, the Isle of Skye, Outer Hebrides or perhaps even mythical St. Kilda. The end of the passage will see us navigating the narrow channels and strong currents around the islands of the wild west coast of Scotland before finishing in historic and picturesque Oban.

What to Expect on This Passage

  • Nonstop from Marstrand at least to Shetland, which is about 3-4 days continuously at-sea on FALKEN.

  • Very variable weather this time of year — everything from calms to storms, upwind, downwind, etc. You’ll learn a lot about weather forecasting and tactical routing.

  • Chance to cruise the spectacular West Coast of Scotland on the run down through the Outer Hebrides if the weather allows, practice finding harbors and anchoring, and drink a dram of whiskey or two :)

Note

We now reserve two spots for women on all of our passages! Learn more here.

All 59º North passages are led by qualified RYA / MCA Yachtmaster Ocean certified skippers & mates, and all miles sailed onboard BOTH of our boats will count towards your own license mileage requirements. We are happy to provide certificates to this effect as well towards your RYA Day Skipper, Yachtmaster or other countries’ sea time requirements.

The Route

Expected Weather Pattern

Summer is over in the North Sea, so expect more variable conditions, cooler temperatures and longer nights as FALKEN heads west from Sweden. While the fall storms haven’t arrived yet in earnest, the chance for heavier weather increases as the days get shorter.
