Synopsis
Two trips in one, as we start with a 250+ mile downwind sail towards Panama, before shifting into inshore mode and transiting the famed Panama Canal and into the Pacific! We have more time scheduled for this passage than is necessary to allow for bureaucratic & logistical delays in the Canal itself. Transiting the Canal and entering a new ocean is a bucket-list adventure for us at 59º North, and adding a little ocean sailing on top is the icing on the cake!
NOTE
We now reserve two spots for women on all of our passages! Learn more here.
The Route
Expected Weather Pattern
Hot, tropical Trade Wind sailing, and then a short motorboat ride through the canal and across the Isthmus of Panama. Bring your coolest, lightest clothing and lots of mosquito repellent! Panama is also the one place on Earth where lightning strikes more often than anywhere else, so we may be in for some fireworks at times too :)
Tentative Itinerary
Feb 25: Join the boat in Cartagena, Colombia at 13:00. Dinner with the group either ashore or onboard.
Feb 26: All-day safety briefing & boat orientation
Feb 27: Departure! (Weather dependent)
Mar 11: Depart the boat in Balboa, Panama outside of Panama City by 12:00 (Noon)
Travel Logistics
