15 // FALKEN: Lagos, Portugal Offshore Training Camp // 450 Miles & 7 Days // $5,000 // 1 Available

$5,000 // 7 Days

Synopsis

Join FALKEN in Lagos, Portugal for an intensive week of sail training, and the first passage since 2020 with both Andy & Mia on the boat! We'll be joined by mate Alex Laline who recently completed the Fastnet Race as skipper aboard a Clipper 68 and who spends his life teaching offshore sailing on big boats.

This passage will be a bit different from our normal passages when we sail from Point A to Point B - on those 'destination' passages we can't choose the weather we sail in, the points of sail, etc. This time we can sail where the wind takes us and hopefully get to practice all points of sail, with a different theme and focus for each day including sail trim, helmsmanship, heavy-weather sailing (if we have any), spinnaker handling, setting a pole downwind, piloting & navigation, instruments & more.

You will join FALKEN in Marina de Lagos, on the south coast of Portugal and we'll set sail from there. We’ll have a potential stopover in Spain, Morocco or an anchorage or port along the Portuguese coast, before finishing the passage back in Lagos. It will be a mix of overnight sailing and day-time sail training with anchoring at night.

Note:

We now reserve two spots for women on all of our passages! Learn more here.

The Route

Expected Weather Pattern

The Fall season can be a little bit of anything and everything. Easy tradewinds are expected on this route, though the occasional frontal passage isn’t out of the question either. While it won’t be as cold as November in the English Channel, it’ll be chilly at night.

Tentative Itinerary

  • Nov 10: Join us in Lagos, Portugal by 17:00. Enjoy dinner with the group either ashore or onboard.

  • Nov 11: All-day safety briefing & boat orientation

  • Nov 12: Departure! (weather dependent).

  • Nov 17: Disembark in Lagos, Portugal by 12:00 Noon

Travel Logistics

  • Fly in and out of Lisbon’s international airpot (LIS) located 300 km from Lagos . Or you can choose the smaller airport only one hour away in Faro (FAO).

  • As with all our passages, we strongly advise organising the appropriate travel insurance to cover the cost of the trip.
