Synopsis
Join FALKEN in sunny Portugal for a 1,000+ mile passage out to the Azores. If time and weather permits we’ll stop at magical Madeira, where we first visited in 2018 on ISBJORN after our first Arctic summer. FALKEN is a fast boat, so we should have plenty of time for a quick jaunt out to Madeira for a day of exploration before continuing northwest out into the Atlantic to the Azores! Landfall port in the Azores is Horta, on the island of Faial.

The Route
Expected Weather Pattern
Easy, warm tradewinds are expected on this route, though the occasional frontal passage isn’t out of the question either. We sailed this route on ICEBEAR in 2021 and it was a pleasant trip out, and a rough trip back!
Tentative Itinerary
Oct 1: Join us in Lagos, Portugal by 17:00. Enjoy dinner with the group either ashore or onboard.
Oct 2: All-day safety briefing & boat orientation
Oct 3: Departure! (weather dependent)
Oct 14: Disembark in Horta, Azores by 12:00 Noon
Travel Logistics
Fly into Lisbon’s international airpot (LIS) located 300 km from Lagos and meet at the boat in a marina TBA.
Fly out from Horta, on the island of Faial. Most connections will go through Sao Miguel.
As with all our passages, we strongly advise organizing the appropriate travel insurance to cover the cost of the trip.
How to Join
To register, complete the Offshore Passage Registration by clicking the 'Sign Up' button above, or at the bottom of the page. You'll be asked to complete the form - make sure you hit submit. Indicate '2023: Portugal – Maderia – Azores' as your preferred passage.
Once we receive your registration, you'll be sent an invoice for 50% of the balance, due immediately. The final 50% of the balance will be due 60 days prior to the passage date. Terms and conditions are in the registration form, and you'll be asked to agree to them before submitting your deposit. Please read them carefully.
